8th Grade Student's - Early College High School Information

Application Information for 2018-2019

Cabarrus County is home to the Cabarrus Kannapolis Early College and the Cabarrus Early College of Technology.  Students will apply to both Early Colleges with only one application.  Students will be able to list a preference, but the district will decide the final placement.

Eligibility: 

  • Must be a resident of Cabarrus County and includes those living in the Kannapolis City Schools District.
  • Must apply during 8th grade year.  (For students currently enrolled in a Cabarrus County or Kannapolis City high school that want to take community college classes, they should contact their school counselors and ask about the Career and College Promise Program.)

 Process:

  • Application - Students will complete the application online from the Cabarrus County Schools - School Choice website.  The teacher recommendation form must be turned into their middle school counselors.
  • Interviews - As part of the application process, both the students and parents must participate in an interview.  Applicants will be contacted to schedule the interviews.
  • Notification -  After all interviews are completed, all applicants are notified by mail as to the status of their application.

The vision of the Kannapolis Middle School counseling program is for all students to maximize their potential for academic success as lifelong learners. Our students will graduate from high school and pursue higher education and skill training to be equipped to meet the ever changing global workforce. Our students will possess the necessary skills to be empathetic and compassionate toward others as well as independent and responsible adults. Students will become contributing member of their community, accepting of culturally diversity, and be critical thinkers as they navigate the complexities of home, career, and community.

KMS School Counseling Program Mission Statement

The mission of the Kannapolis Middle School counseling program is to create a stimulating and engaging comprehensive school counseling program that maximizes student potential for academic success, healthy social/emotional development, and career awareness. Students will be encouraged to pursue academic rigor and aspired to be academically and behaviorally successful, self-motivated, and responsible members of their community. The professional school counselors will partner with students, families, school and district staff members, and community stakeholders to advocate for and ensure equity, access, and success for all students. The KMS school counseling program will equip students to excel academically, personally, and socially as they prepare to become successful, contributing members of society.
