Zimmermann    Hello My Name Is...

Margie Zimmermann

Welcome to My Classroom

Hello wonderful KCS students and parents. It is a pleasure to be working together this year. I have held a variety of positions in this profession over my 20 year career, but love the honorable and wonderful title of classroom teacher the most. I have a wonderful family; I am married to Mr. Tom and have 3 amazing children who all are successful students in KCS. I have multiple animals; a dog named Scout, Lucky the bearded dragon, 2 parakeets, 2 hermit crabs & a beta fish. The Zimmermanns enjoy family time traveling or just staying at home.  In my spare time I enjoy playing/watching sports, games, exercising and reading.

My 4 awesome children!

College(s) Attended/Degrees Earned:           Let's Go Buffalo!

I received both my Bachelors & Masters Degrees (cum laude) in Elementary Education and Reading from the State University New York at Buffalo and taught in Buffalo for 6 years before moving South.  I have held a variety of positions both in and out of the classroom over the course of her career.  I am passionate about inspiring students and teachers alike.  I spent 4 years At Briarwood Elementary before moving onto mentoring a case-load of new teachers in CMS for 3 years.  I was a Lateral Entry “boot camp” trainer for a year,  assisting those crossing over into the profession by helping them set up for success without previous training in education.  Since the move to Kannapolis, I have helped mentor and train teachers using the Professional Learning Community model of collaborative team meetings, as well as returning to the classroom (my favorite place to be).  I was Shady Brook’s Teacher of the Year in 2013/2014 and am excited to bring my knowledge and talents to KMS honors/AIG students this year.  I love new adventures, to be challenged, and embrace new experiences professionally. I recently completed my AIG certification from UNC Charlotte and am going through the National Board process this year.

Educational Philosophy/Vision:

Know the content, know the students, and design
opportunities for them to learn through a variety of activities and sources, including each other.
Engagement and enjoyment are necessary factors.
Rigor+relevance+ high interest +fun= My ideal learning environment.
Design learning opportunities/experiences that are engaging, challenge thinking and are FUN!   (In other words, if I’m going to work, I/we are going to work hard while have fun doing it!)

Favorite Quote:  “Continue to refine the process constantly & forever!”

Things parents/guardians can do to help:
