NC Standards

The NC Standard Course of Study provides educators with a framework on which to build instruction and ensures a uniform set of standards for every student across the state.  You can view the standards for core content classes for Middle School by using the links below.  



Common Core
This link will send you to the Common Core website where you can find information about the standards, the development of the standards, and view information for parents.  

In NC, we use the Common Core standards for Math and English Language Arts. Navigate the Common Core site using the links provided on the right-hand side of the screen.

English Language Proficiency Standards

For ESL students, NC uses English Language Proficiency Standards from WIDA, World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment.  These standards are for all grade levels.  

The standards are as follows:
Standard 1:  English language learners communicate for social and instructional purposes within the school setting. 
Standard 2:  English language learners communicate information, ideas, and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Language Arts. 
Standard 3:  English language learners communicate information, ideas, and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Mathematics. 
Standard 4:  English language learners communicate information, ideas, and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Science.
Standard 5:  English language learners communicate information, ideas, and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of Social Studies.
