Welcome to the KMS Band Page

Here you will find information about the KMS band.

Note For New Band Students

I am so excited to have your student in band class for the Fall of 2018.

A few bits of information that I need to get out to you.  All students will need to pick out an instrument if they have not already done so.  They can choose between flute, clarinet, trumpet or trombone. Other instruments including percussion will be discussed and introduced in January.  I ask that all students start on a primary instrument first to gain some concrete fundamentals. All instruments need to be decided and communicated to me by email June 29th so that we can schedule your student for the proper class.

Rental agreements can be made through The Band Attic or with Music and Arts.  Please call one of these companies as soon as possible to reserve an instrument to be delivered to KMS in July.

If instruments cannot be rented for financial reasons please let me know so that I can help.  Money should never be a reason your student cannot participate in band.

Students will need the following for band class.

Essential Elements Book One and optionally to purchase Essential Elements Book Two for the second semester.  Can be purchased at one of the stores above.

Flutes - Cleaning cloth and rod.

Clarinet - 3 reeds and cork grease.

Trumpet - Valve oil and cork grease or slide grease.

Trombone - Slide-O-Mix and cork grease or slide grease.

Band Polo shirts (will be used all 3 years of middle school) $15 sold at school.

$10 band fee - fee goes to ordering music and purchasing class supplies.

Shirt can be purchased and fees paid at the beginning of the school year.

Students are encouraged and invited to come to First Year  Band Camp on July 30th through August 3rd. Flute and Clarinet will meet from 9am until 10am.  Trumpet and Trombone will meet from 10:30am until 11:30am. Students will be taught the basics of playing and will receive their instruments from the music stores during this week.

Please visit my school webpage about more information about band.  There is a registration form that I would like for you to fill out.  Serial numbers are not needed to fill out this form at this time.

Don’t forget to email me your students instrument preference by June 29th.  This is an exciting time and I am very happy to teach your student.  As always please email me with any questions.

Pep Band - Is open to any 7th and 8th grade band student.  Students are required to attend the rehearsals and have a permission slip signed by a parent/guardian.

This is a WONDERful way to get a little taste of what marching band games will be like in high school.  Students are able to attend games for free and cheer on their classmates as they compete at home games.

Students have a great time practicing for and playing at the games.  We even prepare songs for the cheerleaders to do routines to.

  • Students will play for basketball games

  • Dress code for games are khaki bottoms, green band polo and tennis shoes.

  • Students must follow all KMS school and band rules to participate.
